Mesothelioma – History, Hazards and Dietary Advice

 

Asbestos was considered as miracle products half a century ago. Due to its fire retardant, isolator to electricity and are unaffected by chemicals  make asbestos used widely in building construction materials. There are four types of asbestos. They are Anthophyllite (gray fibers), white Christie, Amosite (brown fibers), and blue Crocidolite.  Asbestos is easily to break and release fibers. Its fibers can adhere to skin or clothing and are easily swallowed or inhaled.

During World War II, the use of asbestos is increasing. It was used in ship buildings and support vessels to insulate boilers, steam pipes and hot water pipes. After WWII, asbestos is also used in brake shoes and clutch pads. Until in the 1970s, it was found out that asbestos dust posses harm to health. It dangers our health. The .S Consumer Product Safety Commission prohibited the use of asbestos in several products. The regulations about use of asbestos and public concern since 1970 have created a significant drop in the use of asbestos in the United States. It is also applied in the developed countries.

Asbestos was entirely banned in 1989 by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA suggest to social buildings to inspect the properties and eliminated the dangerous materials from the property.

 

Health hazards

Asbestos exposure jeopardize human’s health. Lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestosis are the diseases which haunted people who have been exposed to asbestos. People who work in mining, milling, manufacturing asbestos products, and the building construction industry, firemen, demolition and destruction workers, drywall removers, and anyone else involved in trades that involve destruction of buildings, ships, and automobiles are having a higher risk to suffer from asbestos related disease.

 

Dietary advice for Mesothelioma patients

Doctors recommend mesothelioma patients who undergoing treatment must follow a special cancer diet devised by their nutritionists. The diet will be vary cause it will depends on patients conditions. Some may need to incorporate more fat into their diets, while others may need more protein. In order to keep the ailing body replenished and energized, cancer diets involve eating the correct amounts of protein and calories as well as drinking the right amount of water.

It is important for mesothelioma patients to follow guidance of their doctor and nutritionist to ensure that they obtain the proper amount of nutrients to improve their quality of life.

Protein is important for mesothelioma cancer patient to help repair tissue damaged by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation, maintain a strong and healthy immune system and lowering a mesothelioma patient’s risk of infection. You can eat cheese, milk, ice cream, yoghurt, eggs, nuts, peanut butter, meats and fish to get the protein.

Fats are also important cause it supplies supply the body with the necessary energy it needs while undergoing treatment. You can eat butter, milk, cheese, honey, sugar, granola and dried fruits to get fats.

The most essential one is water. For someone who undergoing cancer treatment, drinking water will keep their bodies hydrated and replenished.
